Visiting Scottsdale and Phoenix Arizona will cause you to detour off of Route 66- this is the road you will take when doing a Mini Route 66 Road Trip to arrive at Phoenix airport to catch a flight home. However, if you are doing an extended Route 66 road trip you could also detour off down to Phoenix before coming back up to meet Route 66 again continue on your journey towards Chicago. On the way to Phoenix you will come across the historic city of Sedona - a unique town full of beauty and mystery that is certainly worth a visit. Though our favourite stop along this route, and possibly along Route 66, is the amazing Montezuma Castle National Monument – a historic site within Arizona that dates back over 1000 years and offers insight into what life was like back then.
