You will be situated in the heart of downtown Chicago with Magnificent Mile just steps away. Take advantage of the free shuttle to the Navy Pier, the number one tourist attraction of Chicago.

Days 3-4

Your Route 66 road trip begins today, leave Chicago and head to Lake Shore Drive which is considered to be the official start of Route 66. Stop off at the Route 66 Welcome Center in the Joliet Area Historical Museum. Continue your journey onto Wilmington to see the famous Gemini Giant and then head to Springfield, Illinois. You will be staying at the Hilton Hotel which is closely located to the Abraham Lincoln historic sites.

Days 4-5

Leave Illinois for your next journey to Springfield, Missouri. En route pay a visit to Henrys Rabbit Ranch in Staunton which displays memorabilia of Route 66 in a replica vintage gas station and stop off at the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge in Madison and see the largest pedestrian bridge in the world. Check into the Best Western Route 66 Rail Haven Hotel for one night.

Days 5-6

Next you will journey across The Ozark Highlands of southern Missouri where the 1-44 freeway has replaced the old road all the way through the state. Be sure to visit one of the greatest tourist attractions of the old Route 66 - Meramec Caverns, a set of limestone caves offering a fantastic underground tour. Once you reach Oklahoma City you will be staying in the La Quinta Inn for one night.

Days 6-7

Oklahoma contains the most drivable miles of the original highway of Route 66, so enjoy a true Route 66 drive to Amarillo today. For part of your route you will drive through the Panhandle, Texas which is 200 miles of flat plains. Make your way to the Courtyard Amarillo hotel where you will be staying for one night.

Days 7-9

Unfortunately the original Route 66 has now been replaced by the 1-40 most of the way across Texas, however in Amarillo the old US-66 still stands and is the main business strip. Following the old Route 66 through New Mexico will give you the chance to experience the Land of Enchantment and along the I-40 there are still many ghost towns that were built around Route 66. Once you arrive in Albuquerque, New Mexico you will be staying in the Red Roof Inn and Suites for two nights.

Days 9-10

Today you will travel through western New Mexico to Flagstaff, Arizona. During your journey you can visit some great attractions including Inscription Rock and Chaco Canyon. As you approach the New Mexico border you will continue along a truly spectacular road of red-rock cliffs. We recommend that you pay a visit to the Petrified Forest National Park on your way. Arrive in Flagstaff where you will be staying in the Little America Hotel for one night.

Days 10-12

Head off to one of the natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River. You will be staying in the Yavapai Lodge for two nights which will allow you to explore this truly fantastic spectacle. The Grand Canyon is 200 miles long, 1 mile deep and can range from 5 to 15 miles across. Take a guided tour of the canyon or a helicopter trip to experience the panoramic views.

Days 12-13

Drive along the stretch of old Route 66 road which runs through the high-desert Hualapai Valley and along the Santa Fe Railroad tracks. You will drive through abandoned towns and enter the Hualapai Reservation lands where you can stop for lunch. Continue on and through Lake Havasu City where you will cross the London Bridge, to Needles, California. You will be staying in the Best Western Colorado River inn for one night.

Days 13-16

Next, make a trip to Los Angeles in California where you can relax for the last three nights of your Route 66 holiday. You will be staying in the Holiday Inn Beverly Garland. Visit Hollywood, Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, and Universal Studios or sunbath at the beach.

Day 16

Head to Los Angeles airport, drop your car hire off and catch your flight back to the UK.

Testimonials

"Many thanks for your effort in arranging the Disney holiday for us. It was superb and the accommodation, restaurant recommendations, location and everything else was spot on. We had a little hiccup with rental car collection, I thought it was downtown but it was on Magic Kingdom. Nothing in the scheme of everything else though.

We found the dining plan great and fitted in well with the family and in laws. California Grill on Mother's Day was great. The free visit back to view the Magic Kingdom fireworks at 10 that night topped off the day.

Wolfgang Puck have a gem in Downtown with an excellent counter serve. Recently opened. We stumbled on Raglan Road Downtown too. A lively joint with Irish dancing. Food was one of the best and kids got invited up for a jig too!

The weather was hotter than expected but we didn't complain. A little drop of rain on one morning and night so did well avoiding the storms I remember as a kid "
