Summary: 4 Nights San Francisco, 3 Nights Napa Valley, 3 Nights Sacramento & 4 Nights Lake Tahoe
Fly from the UK direct into San Francisco with Virgin Atlantic, British Airways or United. If you are looking for a little extra space, you can upgrade to Premium Economy, World Traveller Plus or Economy Plus. On arrival in San Francisco, head to your hotel in the heart of Fishermans Wharf - we have chosen the Radisson Hotel Fishermans Wharf. This hotel is in a fantastic location to explore San Francisco by cable car or by food, with plenty of restaurants and sightseeing opportunities nearby.
You will visit some of the most popular San Francisco landmarks, Alcatraz, Little Italy and the museums and gardens of the Golden Gate Bridge. Fishermans Wharf is a great place to chill out, eat fine culinary delights and watch the world go by. The famous Pier 39 is a must, with a selection of shops and boutiques to browse with views of San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. We recommend you try the local dish of a sourdough bread roll filled with fresh clam chowder for an authentic dining experience.
Collect your hire car from the local car rental depot and head towards Napa Valley. The famous wine country is home to hundreds of premier wine producers and is set amongst some beautiful scenery. Napa Valley is approximately an hour drive away and well worth it to learn about the art which creates some of the finest wines of the world. Your hotel for the next three nights is the Hilton Garden Inn Napa - this hotel is a great base and has a relaxed atmosphere, just a few minutes from the historical waterfront, golf clubs and the Napa Premium Outlets.
Leave the Napa Valley behind and head inland towards Sacramento, the state capital of California, hidden away in the central valley. Historically, this was the supply point for the famous gold rush times. The area is now a mix of old and new with much restoration completed to keep the historic feel in the town. There are hundreds of restaurants in the town and the surrounding areas, plus vineyards and wine tasting. You will be staying at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento while here which is in a great central location for exploring.
Make the drive across to Lake Tahoe, crossing the California and Nevada border to make your way to one of the wonders of the west - a majestic lake in the middle of the desert. During the summer season, the lake is great for swimming and during the winters the mountains become one of the best areas on the West coast to ski. The scenery here is stunning with an abundance of activities to take part in. We have chosen the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino for your stay. This is a luxury resort surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges and overlooks a private beach on Take Tahoe. This is a fantastic way to round off your adventure holiday in California.
It will be then time to take the four hour drive back to San Francisco airport for your flight back to the UK.
