Atlantis Bahamas A Resort of Paradise

Atlantis Bahamas is a truly stunning resort located in Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas. Atlantis is built for everyone and there are specialised activities just for kids including an under 18s nightclub, adventure playrooms, an “underwater” video arcade and movie theatre! Though, the central feature of Atlantis that is fun for the whole family is Aquaventure water park!

Aquaventure water park is a lush, tropical landscape that will transport you to Paradise Island. The most iconic features of the water park are:

  • Leap of Faith: this water slide is a thrill seekers heaven as it plunges you almost vertical from the top of a Mayan pyramid into/ through a pool of sharks!
  • Challenger Slide: this waterslide will have you racing your loved ones from the top of the Mayan temple!
  • Abyss: this 50ft near vertical water slide takes you 200ft through the dark Power Tower into a cenote grotto at the bottom!
  • The Serpent Slide: this waterslide is a little slower as you sit in a tube that takes you behind the shark pool meaning you will get to see the sharks up close!
  • The Current: a mile long river that takes you through caverns, a temple that spouts mini-tsunamis, crazy rapids and into the Power Tower for your choice of slide!

Most of slides are suitable even for younger children and riders are determined via height – so if your little one is feeling brave enough (and it tall enough) then they can ride the slides with you!

If you feel like relaxing by the pool, then Atlantis also has you covered: there are 20 swimming areas (including 11 pools) for you to choose from – including 3 pools designed especially for kids! For ultimate relaxation I recommend the Grotto Pool and its 2 cascading waterfalls, and for the ultimate kids play zone I recommend Splashers - a Mayan themed kids pool with water playground, tube slides, water cannons and rope bridges!

Those of you who want to feel the Caribbean sand between your toes are also in luck at Atlantis Bahamas as there are 3 white sand beaches available to guests that make up 5 miles of stunning Caribbean coastline. The water is beautifully blue and so inviting that you won’t be able to help yourself from splashing about in it!

Atlantis Bahamas is also home to the world’s largest open air marine habitat containing 14 lagoons with over 50,000 marine animals and 250 different species. Atlantis are committed to ensuring marine conservation and they have successfully released and tracked 8 Manta Rays into the ocean to study as part of their research and release program! Guests are able to interact with the amazing marine life in more ways than just seeing them behind glass (which is also pretty amazing!), guests can snorkel in the ruins of Atlantis, walk with sharks, scuba dive and join excursions to nearby islands!

You are also able to experience swimming with Dolphins at Atlantis – though, this is not any-old Dolphin swim experience! Dolphin Cay was opened in in response to Hurricane Katrina when 17 stranded dolphins and a group of sea lions were found and rescued after their home was destroyed by the Hurricane.

Those travelling with children will of course want to have plenty of fun together as a family, but sometimes you also want that much needed alone time and a chance to switch off and relax! Atlantis runs its own baby-sitting service for younger children and a kids club program, Atlantis Kids Adventure (ages 3-12) where your children can play safely while you get the chance to read a book on the beach, visit the world class Spa, enjoy a fancy dinner for two or simply spent some much-needed quality time with your partners, friends, family!

Speaking of fancy dinners, there are 21 restaurants and 19 bars and lounges to choose from at Atlantis Bahamas that serve everything from fine dining to quick serve! Atlantis makes a point to include dining options featuring local Bahamian food and flavours from local chefs – a particular favourite of mine was McKenzie’s Conch Shack that served traditional, delicious Conch Salad!

Now we’ve spoken about the variety of things to do and eat at the resort, let’s talk about the variety of accommodation options! Atlantis Bahamas has 5 main accommodation sections that each have their own atmosphere and style.

  1. The Beach: Budget-Friendly Accommodation

Located a short walk from the main hub area, The Beach is perfect for travellers who want to keep their budget in mind but also want a tropical island feel that is close to the beach! With beautiful views of the ocean, this accommodation option has easy access to Atlantis Beach, a lazy river, and a large pool. This is also a less crowded accommodation option with its own buffet restaurant and shuttle bus to the main Atlantis features if needed!

  1. The Coral: Family Friendly Accommodation

The Coral Atlantis is a bit closer to the main hub and action and has easy access to the Marina Village (shopping etc) and Atlantis Beach. The Coral is also home to the amazing Bahamian-infused gelato ice-cream experience, and pool with a swim-up bar and family friendly water areas.

  1. The Royal: Stunning and Iconic Accommodation

This is the accommodation option that features the iconic Bridge Suite that makes the Atlantis Building so famous. This is where those who love Atlantis mythology will want to stay as it is expressed through the artwork in the hotel. This accommodation option is centrally located meaning guests will have easy access to all the main water activities and also a lively Casino, shopping, and Spa! The rooms are also a little larger in The Royal meaning larger families staying in a single room may prefer it here! Staying at The Royal will just elevate your holiday and give you the iconic Atlantis experience!

  1. Residential Reef: Luxury Apartment Style Accommodation

This accommodation option may be a little further away, but it offers condo-style accommodation with a luxurious feel. The apartments are 1- or 2-bedroom units that are perfect for families travelling together who want a bit more space to spread out, they also have pull-out sofas and fully equipped kitchens/ kitchenettes! Though initially pricier, these will help guests save money by being able to cook your own meals instead of dining out each night! The Reef also has its own beach and large family pool exclusively for Reef and Cove guests.

  1. The Cove: Executive Accommodation

Like The Reef, The Cove feature apartment type accommodation suites that exude luxury and lavishness. Only here will you have un-interrupted ocean views and exclusive access to the adult only Cove pool! Staying at The Cove is for those who want to truly indulge and experience ultimate luxury on their Bahamian holiday!

Whilst staying at Atlantis you are free to venture into the city (in fact I recommend you do!) and see some local Bahamian culture including flea markets where you can pick up some authentic souvenirs! You can also pre-book excursions like swimming with the infamous pigs at Pig Island or heading out on a snorkelling adventure!

Atlantis Bahamas

Atlantis Bahamas is truly Paradise Island, but it is not the only one – Atlantis the Palm in Dubai is another stunning option for you and your family if you have already been to the Bahamas or just fancy travelling somewhere new!

Atlantis Bahamas is also a great option for those looking for an Orlando Twin Centre holiday as Nassau is about a 50-minute flight from Florida making it the perfect 4-5 night stop over before, during, or after your Orlando Disney experience!
