Epcot is Disney's celebration of planet Earth and all the wonderful cultures we have here. Epcot combines high-tech futuristic fun with the magic of Walt Disney World to create amazing immersive experiences for you and your family to enjoy on your Walt Disney World holiday.
At Epcot, you will go on a journey from under the sea, into the stars, and to a variety of cultures around the world. Epcot is full of rides and attractions for you to enjoy within its World Showcase set around a large central lake.
Attractions at Epcot provide fun for the whole family. One minute, you can be whizzing along Test Track, whereas the next you are meeting Ana and Elsa in the World Showcase. The Epcot International Food and Wine Festival is also a fan favourite and runs from mid to late autumn. During this time, guests will be able to sample different foods and drinks from around the world in the World Showcase.
Epcot is one of the larger parks in the Walt Disney World Resort, and before we dive into the World Showcase, let's first have a look at what's on offer throughout the rest of the Epcot theme park. Spaceship Earth is one of Epcot's most popular attractions as it is housed within the gigantic golf-style ball that you can see as soon as you arrive at Epcot. Another popular attraction at Epcot is Test Track, where guests can create their own custom vehicle and take it for a test drive. One of Epcot's newest attractions is Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. With this attraction, instead of visiting another country, you are visiting outer space with the crew of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy!
Other popular attractions at Epcot include Soarin’ Around the World, Living with the Land, Turtle Talk with Crush, Mission Space, and the greatly anticipated Journey of Water: Inspired by Moana, will be a walkthrough-style attraction focused on nature and water.
Now, let's move on to arguably Epcot's main attraction: the World Showcase. The World Showcase is an epic recreation of 11 different countries located around Epcot's central lake. Along the way, you'll be able to enjoy shops, attractions, food and drink, and architecture representative of each country.
If you walk around the World Showcase clockwise, the first country you will visit is Mexico. The Mexico Pavilion is largely indoors - inside a Mesoamerican pyramid! Inside the pyramid, you will find a traditional Mexican street market set as if it is in the evening; the interior is complete with atmospheric lighting and even a volcano in the background.
In the Mexican street market, you will find a variety of souvenirs to pick up, including traditional Mexican hats and tequila. In the Mexico Pavilion, a mariachi band performs for 20 minutes several times a day, so be sure to time your visit to enjoy listening to this traditional Mexican music. You'll also find an attraction in the Mexico Pavilion: The Grand Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros. This is a gentle boat ride through the Mexico Pavilion as the three amigos search for a missing Donald Duck!
There are also a number of places to eat and drink in the Mexico Pavilion, including the San Angel Inn Restaurante, which serves Mexico specialties, and La Cava del Tequila, which serves guests over the age of 21 a selection of over 70 tequilas, highlighting the tradition of tequila making in Mexico.
Next up as you make your way around the lake is the Norway Pavilion, a Norwegian village complete with turfed roofs, a waterfall, and a 12th-century stave church. To make this village truly immersive, the architects of the Norway Pavilion used real Norwegian houses and villages as inspiration. In the Norway Pavilion, you will find a variety of attractions, including Frozen Ever After, a magical boat ride that takes you on a trip with the Frozen characters, including Anna, Elsa, Olaf, and Kristoff. Frozen Ever After is one of two Epcot attractions that you can actually purchase an individual Lightning Lane for through Disney Genie.
The China Pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase is one of the most detailed and largest of all the pavilions. At the China Pavilion, you will find the Temple of Heaven, along with other traditional architecture. You will also find a variety of dining options, including the Lotus Blossom Cafe, a quick-service restaurant serving Chinese favorites like vegetable rolls and vegetable stir fry. For souvenir shopping, why not head over to the House of Good Fortune, where you may find a traditional Chinese parasol or fan that you can take home to enjoy.
Think lederhosen, medieval Bavarian village, and Oktoberfest when you head to the German Pavilion in Epcot's World Showcase. The Germany Pavilion represents a medieval Germany rather than one you might find today; however, thanks to its Bavarian nature, it offers great frankfurters, Bratwurst, and beer for you to enjoy. Plus, why not try the delicious apple strudel and three-layer Black Forest gateau cake.
Venice, Rome, and Florence all play a part in making up the architecture throughout the Italian pavilion. A replica of the St Mark’s Square bell tower can be found in the Italy pavilion and The Fontana Di Nettuno is Epcot's fun homage to the Trevi Fountain found in the iconic city of Rome.
The United States of America Pavilion was the flagship one at the World Showcase at Epcot and it celebrates America's history. In the America pavilion you will find inspiration from Independence Hall from Philadelphia, and Boston's Old Statehouse. This Pavilion is home to the American adventure show located inside the huge Georgian style mansion in the American Pavilion. This 30-minute presentation uses automated animatronic figures from America's history.
The Japan Pavilion offers fantastic temple architecture such as the Goju-no-to, plus a stunning replica of the floating torii of Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima that is one of the most well-known landmarks in Japan. Epcot subversion offers fantastic views out over the showcase lagoon and the Spaceship Earth geosphere!
The Morocco Pavilion is full of narrow streets, hidden pathways, and a replicated tower icon: Koutoubia Minaret, which can be found at the Koutoubia Mosque in Marrakech. The Morocco Pavilion is unique as it is one of the only pavilions at the world showcase where Disney designers were aided by the country they are representing; King Hassan II sent his own designers to help with the construction, and this is why you will see flawed mosaic tiles within the Morocco Pavilion to in keep with the Muslim belief that Allah can only produce perfection.
The elegant streets of the France Pavilion transport you straight to the streets of Paris. In the France Pavilion, the Eiffel Tower can be seen in the background, as well as delightfully Parisian architecture, shops, and eateries throughout the Pavilion.
In the United Kingdom Pavilion, you'll find quaint cobbled streets, mock Tudor design pubs, a tea shop, red phone boxes, fish and chips and much more. Similar to the German Pavilion, The United Kingdom Pavilion offers British architecture from a bygone area including the Victorian, Tutor and Georgian periods.
The Canadian Pavilion offers a natural landscape and a trip through the Rockies with powerful cascading waterfalls. As you head through the Canadian Pavilion, you'll find yourself in the heart of the Canadian Rockies where you can follow the boardwalk along to see the towering waterfall. In the Canadian Pavilion you will also find the Hotel du Canada, which was inspired by the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa, and the pretty Victoria gardens that offer a variety of flowers and plants that change color with the seasons. In the Canada Pavilion, you will also see totem poles which represent different cultural stories among those of Southeast Alaska.
Throughout the Epcot theme park and around the World Showcase, you will be invited to enjoy a variety of culinary delights that pull from destinations around the world. There are over 35 places to eat and drink at Epcot, so here are a few of our favorite table service, quick service, and food stands and carts found throughout the Epcot theme park.
When you are in the mood for a quick on-the-go snack like popcorn or a Turkey leg, then there are plenty of food carts located throughout Epcot and around the World Showcase. Some of our favourites include Canada serving Maple topped popcorn, UK beer cart, via Napoli pizza window, and Fife & Drum Tavern serving All-American Turkey legs.
When visiting the Walt Disney World resort, you may want to stay in a hotel specifically located near Epcot. A selection of Walt Disney World resort hotels are located close to the entrance of Epcot, however here are our top three:
