Walking in Memphis
One of the most beloved streets in Memphis, and a great place for a stroll down after dark to see all the neon signage, is Beale Street. Beale Street is considered the birthplace of the Blues and is a designated National Historic Landmark. A walk down Beale Street would not be complete without an audio guide to tell you exactly for everything is you're looking at whilst you take in the smells of BBQ drifting out from the restaurants and smoke from the bars - a walk down this Memphis Street is something that is not to be missed.
Staying in Memphis
On their holiday to Memphis, many clients love to stay at the Guest House at Graceland within the walls of Elvis’s home on the Graceland property – this amazing, and unique hotel is perfect for lovers of Elvis and the rich musical history of the Deep South. Another of our client’s favourite is the Peabody Hotel; the Peabody Hotel is another unique hotel but this time it is famous for its living occupants rather than its historic ones: the Peabody ducks. Every day The Peabody Ducks are paraded through this Memphis hotel to the fountain in the lobby where they then splash about in front of amused guests.
Eating in Memphis
There are many amazing restaurants in America's Deep South, and Memphis is no exception. A popular choice found on Beale Street is Blues City Café where guests can dine on the famous ribs with their secret sauce for a Deep South culinary experience like no other. After enjoying a southern delicacy, head next door for some live music at the Band Box. If you fancy a more on-the-go meal, why not try Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken for the best chicken in Memphis!
Attractions in Memphis
Graceland is arguably the shining jewel of Memphis and the reason so many of our clients love to visit this Tennessee every year. About 15 minutes from Downtown Memphis sits Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley. Many of our clients also loved to stay at the Guest House at Graceland the full Elvis Presley experience. Even for those who aren't die hard Elvis fans, this is still a great attraction to see whilst in Memphis and a part of the city's rich history.
In the summer months, the Peabody Hotel hosts rooftop parties with local Tennessee bands that play long into the night for the ultimate Deep South Rooftop party. No trip to Memphis would be complete without a visit to Sun Studio – the birthplace of Rock-n-Roll; Sun Studio was the home to many famous faces including Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash and is open to the public for tours. Continuing the music theme, the Stax Museum of American Soul Music is another must-visit for fans of musical legends!
If you're looking for a way to get around Memphis and see all of these top sights, then why not hop on the MATA Trolley (tram) that takes you all through the city including to Beale Street and the Peabody hotel!
