New York and Toronto Holidays / City Break FAQs

What's included in a New York and Toronto holiday?

Our New York and Toronto holidays are fully tailor-made, but a typical package includes return flights (usually with Virgin Atlantic into New York and WestJet onward to Toronto), 4-star hotel accommodation in both cities - such as the Hotel Riu Plaza New York Times Square and Chelsea Hotel Toronto — and all transfers between flights and hotels. Because every trip is built around you, it's easy to add extras like a Niagara Falls or Ottawa day trip, upgrade to Premium or Upper Class cabins, or swap in a different hotel category. Just let us know what matters most and we'll build the quote around it.

How many days do I need for a New York and Toronto city break?

Most of our clients travel for 8 nights in total, split evenly as 4 nights in New York and 4 nights in Toronto — long enough to see the highlights of both cities without feeling rushed. That said, the split is entirely flexible: if Broadway and Manhattan are the priority, a 5+3 split works well; if Niagara Falls and Ottawa are must-dos, 3+5 gives Toronto more breathing room. Shorter 6-night versions (3 nights each) are also popular for a quicker city break.

How do you get from New York to Toronto?

You'll fly between the two cities — it's a short domestic-style hop of around 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours in the air, typically with WestJet or Air Canada. In June, flights run frequently throughout the day, so it's easy to slot the transfer in without losing much of a sightseeing day. We handle the booking as part of your package so both legs are confirmed before you travel.

Is Niagara Falls included in the Toronto holiday?

Niagara Falls isn't automatically included as standard, but it's the single most popular add-on to our Toronto holidays and one we'd always recommend — it's roughly 1.5 hours from Toronto by road, so it works well as a full-day trip. We can arrange this as a guided tour or self-drive/self-organised day out, including highlights like the Table Rock Welcome Centre, the Journey Behind the Falls, and (June-dependent) a Hornblower boat cruise right up to the falls. Just flag it when enquiring and we'll build it into your itinerary and price.

Do I need a visa for a New York and Toronto holiday?

Yes — both countries require pre-travel authorisation for UK passport holders (this isn't a full visa, but it must be arranged before you fly). For the US leg you'll need an ESTA, and for the Canada leg an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization). Both are quick to apply for online and are usually approved within a few days, but we'd always recommend sorting these well ahead of your June departure. See our full passport and visa advice for more detail.

What's the best time of year for a New York and Toronto city break?

June is one of the best months to combine these two cities. In New York, expect warm, sunny days (typically 20-27°C) that are ideal for walking the city and sitting in Central Park, before the peak summer humidity of July and August sets in — and it's peak Broadway season, so there's plenty of choice for a show. Toronto in June is similarly pleasant and mild, and it's also when the city's outdoor festival season starts to ramp up, with patios, waterfront events and markets in full swing. Compared to Toronto's cold winters, June gives you the best of both cities without extreme weather at either end.

How much does a New York and Toronto holiday cost?

Prices vary depending on your travel dates, choice of hotel category, cabin class, and any extras like Niagara Falls or Ottawa day trips. As a guide, the sample itinerary shown on this page — 4 nights at Hotel Riu Plaza New York Times Square and 4 nights at Chelsea Hotel Toronto, flying Virgin Atlantic/WestJet — is priced from £1,675pp based on 2 adults sharing and travelling 1 June. Since every holiday is tailor-made, get in touch with your preferred dates and we'll put together a personalised quote.

Can I add Ottawa or other Canadian cities to this trip?

Absolutely. Ottawa is already a popular addition to this itinerary — most clients visit as a day trip from Toronto, either by scenic train or a leisurely drive, taking in Parliament Hill, the Canadian Museum of History and the Rideau Canal. If you'd rather explore more of Ottawa (or Canada more broadly), we can also build it in as an overnight extension rather than a single day trip — just tell us how much time you have and we'll adapt the itinerary around it.
