Known for its beauty, the Nãpali Coast of Kauai is one of the most famous coastlines in the world (fans of Jurassic Park will certainly recognise it) and should be at the top of every 2022 Hawaii holidays or honeymoon bucket list! Kauai’s Nāpali Coast extends from Polihale State Park in the southwest to Keʻe Beach on the North Shore. And is a beautiful mix of mountains, ridges, waterfalls and untouched beaches. A unique feature of the beautiful Nāpali Coastline is that it cannot be driven at all – there are no roads offering access. This means the only way to access the wild and beautiful Nāpali Coastline is by foot, boat or air!
Visiting by boat:
Departing from either Port Allen in the south or Hanalei Bay up north, many companies offer boat tours of the Nāpali Coast – from catamaran cruises, snorkelling adventures to private charters. When booking with Charter Travel, we can help you pick the boat tour that is best for you and your 2022 Kauai Hawaii holiday budget. A boat tour allows you to see more of the Nãpali Coastline than you would be able to by foot and it also allows you to have a much more extended view of the beautiful Nãpali Coastline as you sail up and down it. You can also combine your Nãpali Coast trip with a snorkel adventure – this is an amazing way to make the most of your Nãpali Coast boat trip!
Visiting by air:
Helicopter tours operate daily on Kauai and there are many different helicopter tours you can take over the Hawaiian Island of Kauai that will allow you to see places not accessible by land. A helicopter tour over the Nãpali Coast will allow you to have panoramic views of the beautiful Nãpali Coast landscape including waterfalls, beaches, mountain ranges and to see some iconic filming locations such as once used in Jurassic Park and Pirates of the Caribbean! Seeing the Nãpali Coast from the air is truly a bucket list item that no 2022 Hawaii holiday or honeymoon should go without – your experienced pilots will also offer commentary of the coastline, so you know exactly what you are looking at! Nãpali Coast helicopter tours are extremely popular and therefore get booked up quickly – we recommend booking your 2022 Nãpali Coast helicopter tour when you book your 2022 Kauai Hawaii holiday with us to make sure you are not disappointed.
Visiting on foot:
There is no road access to the Nāpali Coast so visiting the coastline on foot is the only way to access the views on land. Though, hiking the Nāpali Coast trails is not for everyone so making sure you know the trails and conditions are vital! The Kalalau Trail leaves from Keʻe Beach and travels 11 miles along the Nāpali Coast. Hikers are able to camp, with a permit, at Kalalau Beach to break up their hike but permits are scarce, so it is vital to secure one early. Viewing the Nāpali Coast like this will provide breath-taking views out over the ocean that will be absolutely picture perfect. The hike along the Nāpali Coast will also take you the Hanakāpī’ai Beach and Falls which is only 2 miles into the Kalalua Trail and well worth a visit, though going beyond this 2 mile marker is only advised for experienced hikers! When hiking the Nāpali Coast be sure to bring supplies like food and water, stay out of the water as it can be dangerous and never hike alone! It is best to hike the Nāpali Coast in the summer months when the ocean is calmer and the weather is stable.
We recommend aiming to see the Nāpali Coast from at least two different perspectives (on foot, by boat and by air) to ensure you really feel like you have seen and experienced the beautiful Nāpali Coastline from every angle and perspective.
