The Road to Hana

The Road to Hana is one of the best things to do on the Hawaiian Islands all together and certainly cannot be missed on your 2024 Hawaii holiday! To get the best out of the Road to Hana you will want to hire a car – that way you can set the pace of this trip yourselves and thoroughly enjoy your Maui holiday 2024. If you are planning your Hawaii honeymoon for 2024 the Road to Hana is also an excellent edition to your Hawaii holiday! Hiring a car in Maui is easy and we at Charter Travel can assist you when you book your Hawaiian holiday. The Road to Hana can be done in a day but we recommend staying the night in Hana so you can take your time and not rush anything! You’ll want to download the Road to Hana app to help you plan your journey, so you know which mile makers (stops) to see on the way up verses on your return journey. It doesn’t really matter which order you do things as you can cross the road easily and do mile markers on either side both ways,  so it’s more about planning and scheduling in when you want to do certain activities!

A must-do stop on the Road to Hana is the Bamboo forest at mile marker 6.5 – this is a walk through a tall bamboo forest to a set of waterfalls. Whilst on my bamboo hike I got lost in the forest for a while but eventually found my way back – my tip would certainly be to follow the path carefully and listen for voices to make sure you’re on the right track! The next cool stop on the Road to Hana are the Unique Rainbow Eucalyptus Trees between mile markers 6 and 7. The trunks of these Rainbow Eucalyptus Trees are, as described, brightly multicoloured and make for an epic picture! Another amazing stop you’ll definitely want to pull over for is Ke’anae Peninsula Viewpoint at mile marker 13. This stop is a stunning looked out over the Hawaiian ocean that you’ll not want to miss! You might be feeling a bit hungry by now and wanting to stop for some food: just past mile marker 17 you’ll find the Halfway to Hana Snack Stand where you can purchase some delicious banana bread! In fact, throughout your 2024 Maui Hawaii holiday you’ll want to sample the local banana bread as it is known for being the best!

One of our favourite stops is Upper Waikani Falls between mile marker 19 and 20. This stop takes you to an epic waterfall where you can swim in the pool the waterfall flows into! This is the perfect opportunity for your 2024 Hawaii honeymoon to get that once-in-a-lifetime photo to remember your amazing trip by! We recommend taking some time here to enjoy the view and fresh water from the Hawaiian mountains. One of the best views and most unique landscapes on the Road to Hana, and possible on your whole 2024 Maui Hawaii Holiday is Wai‘anapanapa State Park and Black Sand Beach at mile marker 32. There is a short walk along a coastal path to get firstly to a Hawaiian black sand beach and then further on to a cliff’s-edge look out over the ocean and back over the unique beach. After this stop, in just 10 minutes you will then reach Hana town. There are many fresh fruit stalls in Hana that you have to sample from – Hawaii is known for its amazing fruit! Once you have reached Hana you could turn around and make the journey back all in one day (many do and still get to see all the amazing stops) however, we really recommend staying the night in Hana to experience Maui’s least touristy and most traditional town. The Hana-Maui Resort by Hyatt is one of the best hotels in Hana and will allow you the opportunity to take it slow on your drive and see everything there is to see without worrying about making it back. You can also explore the quaint town of Hana, eat some of the local food and watch the sunrise over the sea! We highly recommend booking a table at Mama’s Fish House for when you arrive back from your Road to Hana journey - it serves fresh Hawaiian fish and is known to one of the best restaurants on the Hawaiian Island of Maui.
