The Disney Aulani Hotel is located in West Oahu, or Leeward Coast. The resort is nicely placed in Ko Olina right on top of the Ko Olina Lagoons, a popular and relaxing beach spot on Leeward Oahu.
The west side of Oahu has seen a boom in growth over the last decade and a half and the larger area of Kapolei is often called Oahu second city. The intention for planners is to take some of the pressure of the Waikiki area and offer additional Hawaii vacation spots and luxury resorts on the opposite end of the Island.
Officially called Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina was developed and imagined by Disney imagineers and locals. The intention was to celebrate Hawaiian culture, art, activities and excursions in a modern, fun resort like atmosphere.
Of course, being a Disney resort it had to appeal to people with families. It had to be fun for the adults and their children. Do not get it wrong, though, you could easily take your sweetheart to Aulani for a beautiful, romantic get-away and be totally fine with it!
The Ko Olina Lagoons are 4, man-made and calm water lagoons. The Aulani shares the lagoons with the public and other businesses on the development such as JW Marriot Ihilani Ko Olina Resort and Spa.
The lagoons offer the perfect spot to enjoy the day laying on the beach, snorkeling or just splashing and having fun. There have even been times when Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles and Hawaiian Monk Seals have shown up to make an appearance right in the lagoons. Awesome!
