Over 13 days on Sri Lanka Cultural Triangle, Yala & Beach Holiday this you'll climb the ancient citadel at Sigiriya, wander the ruined royal capital of Polonnaruwa, and stand before the sacred Temple of the Tooth in Kandy, before swapping temples for the wild on safari in Yala National Park. This itinerary end with 4 relaxed nights on the beach at Hikkaduwa. As with all our holidays, every hotel, stop and night can be tailored to suit you.

Sample 13-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Depart London for Colombo

Depart London Heathrow in the afternoon for your overnight flight to Colombo.

Day 2: Arrive & Relax in Negombo

You'll be met on arrival at Colombo Airport and transferred to Negombo beach, a relaxed spot to unwind after the flight before your tour of the island begins.

Day 3: Negombo to Sigiriya — Pinnawala & Dambulla

This morning, visit Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Established in 1975 to care for orphaned elephant calves, it's since grown into a successful breeding centre and is one of the best places in Sri Lanka to see elephants up close. In the afternoon, continue to the Dambulla Cave Temple, where statues and centuries-old paintings tell the story of Lord Buddha's life across five cave shrines.

Day 4: Sigiriya Rock & the Ruins of Polonnaruwa

This morning, climb Sigiriya — the 5th-century rock citadel and UNESCO World Heritage Site that's one of Sri Lanka's most recognisable landmarks. In the afternoon, head to Polonnaruwa to explore the ruins of the Royal Palace, followed by Gal Vihara, home to three striking Buddha statues carved directly into the rock in standing, seated and reclining poses.

Day 5: Sigiriya to Kandy

This morning, travel to Kandy, stopping en route at a spice plantation in Matale. In Kandy, visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, stroll around Kandy Lake, and take in the bazaar, the arts and crafts centre and a gem museum.

Day 6: Kandy to Nuwara Eliya (or the Scenic Train to Ella)

Travel up into the hills to Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka's tea-growing capital, stopping at a working tea plantation and factory along the way to see how the leaves are graded and processed, with a cup of fresh Ceylon tea to finish. If you'd rather, you can take the scenic train from Kandy to Ella instead, one of the most celebrated rail journeys in Asia, and spend the night there.

Day 7: Nuwara Eliya/Ella to Yala National Park

This morning, head to Yala National Park, Sri Lanka's largest national park and home to elephants, wild boar, wild buffalo, leopards, sloth bears, deer and crocodiles, alongside large flocks of migratory and resident birds. In the afternoon, head out on your first jeep safari.

Day 8: Yala Safari & Transfer to Hikkaduwa

A second safari this morning, before transferring to your beach resort in Hikkaduwa.

Days 9–12: Relax at Your Beach Resort

Four nights to unwind at Hikkaduwa – Hikka TranzResort. swap between the beach, the pool and exploring the coastline at your own pace.

Day 13: Fly Home

Transfer to Colombo Airport for your flight back to the UK.
