Perched atop Mt. Hollywood sits a truly California icon, the Griffith Observatory. Offering views of the entire LA basin, the surrounding mountains, and the Pacific Ocean this really is one of the best viewing spots in LA! Additionally, from the observatory’s rooftop viewing platform you can see the city skyline, the Hollywood Hills and the Hollywood Sign! However, the Griffith Observatory also offers views that are actually out of this world - open nightly, and free to the public, at the Griffith Observatory you can gaze into the stars through their 12-inch Zeiss refracting telescope.
Another excellent attraction at the Griffith Observatory is the Samuel Oschin Planetarium as it offers a laser projection of the cosmos and our search for water, and life, outside of Earth. The state-of-the-art laser projector offers 3 shows for public viewing: Cantered in the Universe, which explores The Big Bang, Water is Life, Which highlights our search for water outside of earth, and Light of the Valkyries which explores the spectacular of the Northern Lights. At the Observatory there is a little cafe, or a short hike away is a bakery, however food options are limited so we advise you pack snacks for this trip up above LA.
