The Golden Gate Bridge is a staple of San Francisco and is the landmark that many people associate California and San Francisco with; whilst in San Francisco crossing over the Golden Gate Bridge is an absolute must, and there are many ways to do this. One of the most entertaining ways is to rent a bike from Fisherman's Wharf, many of the hotels even include free bike rental, and bike along Fisherman's Wharf and the San Francisco Bay, up to the Golden Gate Bridge, across the Golden Gate Bridge and down to the small city of Sausalito. Sausalito is an Italian style city where you can grab a bite to eat and shop in a few boutiques stores before catching the ferry back across the San Francisco Bay to Fisherman's Wharf where you will be treated to amazing views of both Alcatraz Island and the Golden Gate Bridge that you have just biked over.
For those who want a more leisurely trip over the Golden Gate Bridge, why not hop in a taxi and have the taxi driver drive you up and over the Golden Gate Bridge and either back to your destination or down into Sausalito where you can also catch the ferry back across the Bay for amazing views. A third option to cross the Golden Gate Bridge is by simply walking; this allows you to really take in the magnificent structure and the views that you will be treated to on both sides of the Golden Gate Bridge as you can walk across one side and walk back across on the other for a 360-degree view from the Golden Gate Bridge.
