Located just outside the city of Los Angeles, Santa Monica is a coastal city with its own charm and character that feels totally different from its neighbour LA. Santa Monica’s stand-out landmark is of course the Santa Monica Pier. Santa Monica Pier is also home to an aquarium, restaurants (including bubba Gump Shrimp Co.) and a sign marking the end of Route 66! The Santa Monica Pier has been featured in many films and TV shows, including the Marvel classic Iron Man, and makes for the perfect day out in Santa Monica or a nice evening stroll after dinner.

Spanning the entire length of Santa Monica, the Santa Monica State Beach is a golden sand oasis that is home to the Santa Monica Pier and is beloved by visitors year-round. Though the Santa Monica State Beach can get busy, it still manages to maintain a relaxed summer holiday feel. The beach is huge so allows room for plenty of tourists and locals alike, and for a less crowded experience be sure to park further away from the Pier and enjoy the view of it, not from it.

For amazing views of the ocean and Santa Monica Mountains, Palisades Park is the place to be. Home to the Santa Monica Pier and Santa Monica State Beach, the park is often busy and enjoyed by tourists. Though, the Pacific Palisades-adjacent end often sees less crows so is perfect for a morning walk, evening stroll, or even a family picnic in the midday sun.

Foodies will love the Santa Monica farmers’ market – home to the best, freshest food in Santa Monica! The best time to visit the market is on Wednesday from 8am-1pm as this is when the market sees the lowest level of crowds and you can really explore what is on offer!

Muscle Beach is another favoured location of Santa Monica locals and though most people know Muscle Beach as the open-air gym on Venice Beach in LA, the original Muscle Beach can be found in Santa Monica! On weekends be sure to take a walk to Muscle Beach and see it in action: amazing gymnasts often workout on the parallel bars and rings – it truly is a sight to behold!

Santa Monica is a great destination for a Twin Centre holiday with Los Angeles as the two are within driving distance – you can even do a day trip from one to the other.
