Sample Itinerary of Southern Music Trails

Days 1-3

Fly to Atlanta from the United Kingdom with one of the daily flights operated by our partner airlines British Airways or Delta Airlines. On arrival pick up your hire car and head towards downtown Atlanta to your hotel, the Hilton Garden Inn. The location of this hotel is excellent, in the heart of the city it overlooks the Centennial Olympic Park and close to the Georgia Aquarium and World of Coca Cola, both highly recommended attractions. The birthplace of the Civil Rights Leader, Martin Luther King is an important national historic site and is an interesting place to learn about the life of the great man and the civil rights movement.

Days 3-5

From Atlanta head to Nashville, famous for being the birthplace of country music and home to the Country Music Hall of Fame. The Grand Ole Opry, hosts weekly country stage concerts and is the longest running live radio show in the world, and is a popular attraction. Take a trip on General Jackson Showboat, a paddlewheel boat that recreates the showboats of the 19th century, along the Cumberland River. Your hotel the Marriott Courtyard is located on the historic Printers Alley in the centre of the city from where you can explore Nashville. The hotel itself offers spacious guest rooms and suites, housed within a 19th century bank, making it part of the very fabric of the city.

Days 5-7

Memphis is a city that is most famous for one man, the King of Rock and Roll - Elvis Presley. Hundreds of thousands of people from around the world make the trip the Memphis to visit Graceland, and the Sun Studio, key sites in the history of one of the most successful musicians of the 20th century. You will be staying in the Madison Hotel, located in the centre of downtown Memphis. It is a charming hotel, finished to a very high standard, and prides itself on its service. The hotel comes complete with heated indoor pool and a rooftop patio and bar which offers spectacular views of the city.

Days 7-8

Natchez, the next stop on your tour is home to some of the finest antebellum era plantation homes and mansions, built by the wealthy plantation owners of the 18th century. These beautiful homes are set in large gardens and showcase the wealth of the early years of the United States. Your hotel the Monmouth Plantation, built in 1818 has been transformed into a charming hotel which gives you the visitor the experience of life during the heyday of Natchez. Nonetheless the hotel maintains all the amenities you would expect in a luxury hotel with the option of taking a hot air balloon tour of the area from the front lawn.

Days 8-10

Lafayette is the main city of the Cajun population, descendants of the exiled French Acadians who moved to Louisiana in the 1700s, and they have stamped their culture across the south of Louisiana with a distinctive style of cooking and music. The Hilton Lafayette is a great base from which to explore the area, offering an outdoor pool and fitness facilities, along with the option of dining in the hotel. The guest rooms and suites are all modern and spacious, with a high level of service. Just up the road is Acadian Village, home to a variety of 19th century homes and businesses, which offer a snapshot of life in a French settler village of the period.

Days 10-12

New Orleans, the home of jazz is the next stop on your amazing holiday in America. A city with a rich and vibrant history, it remains a must see of the southern states. If you travel out in the spring, the annual Mardi Gras festival showcases the colour and passion of the city. The French Quarter, the oldest part of the city and dating back to the 1700s provides year round entertainment with great bars and restaurants on Bourbon Street and others. Your hotel the Country Inn and Suites is found within the French Quarter and comes complete with outdoor heated pool and fitness centre, with complimentary breakfast.

Days 12-14

After the excitement of New Orleans, Pensacola is the perfect place to relax and unwind, on the crisp white sands of the Gulf of Mexico. We have chosen the beachfront setting of the Holiday Inn Resort, with fantastic amenities, including a large lazy river pool, views across the Gulf of Mexico and spacious guest rooms and suites. From here you are within walking distance of a range of restaurants, bars and night time entertainment, with the beautiful sandy beaches a constant attraction.

Days 14-15

The historic capital of Alabama, Montgomery has a long and eventful history, housing the White House of the Confederacy, during the American Civil War. The Alabama Shakespeare Festival runs a number of productions throughout the year; it is one of the largest Shakespeare theatre groups in the world and is noted for its excellent performances. The Renaissance Montgomery hotel comes complete with rooftop pool and spa facilities as well as onsite restaurants. There are a variety of guest rooms and suites offered, all of which are finished to a high standard.

Day 15

Drive back to Atlanta from Montgomery and drop your hire car off at the airport before boarding your flight back to the United Kingdom, completing your fantastic holiday in America.
