Located in the Arizona desert along Route 66 is the city of Flagstaff. Flagstaff is famously the gateway to the Grand Canyon State Park in Arizona and welcomes travellers along Route 66 throughout the year. With its old fashioned but chic downtown area, lined with diners and historic motels, and the scenic San Francisco peaks rising in the background, Flagstaff is a great stop along your Route 66 road trip.
Flagstaff is also home to infamous Route 66 locations: the Route 66 Zipline and Route 66 Gas Station Museum. For those on a longer Route 66 journey, perhaps three weeks, will want to stay for a couple of nights in Flagstaff to allow you enough time to enjoy the city plus visit the Grand Canyon.
